MONTHLY WEEKEND AT THE PALENTINIAN MOUNTAIN
Mountain Palentina due to its geographical and climatological situation presents a landscape of transition between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Castilian Plateau that makes it especially rich in biodiversity and with a high variety of forest ecosystems.
All this makes it a privileged territory, which is worth discovering, due to its nature, its history, its landscapes, tranquility, beauty, tranquility and immensity … Biodiversity in all corners.
If we talk about vegetation, we find a rich mosaic of plant communities such as: Quejigales, holm oaks, rebollares, beech and some specific formations of sessile oak that is in regression due to the expansion of the beech.
At the moment we find both species forming mixed forests. Also the riparian forests that accompany the water courses are important, with elms, ash, poplars, hazel trees, etc.
The existing pines come mainly from artificial reforestation, being the most used species: Pinus sylvestris, Pinus nigra and Pinus pinaster … An explosion of landscape, different environments, full of life and magic, and each one different from the other, with its particularities, with its associated species …

And among the many treasures that we can discover walking and enjoying the forests and meadows of the Palencia Mountain are the “Mushrooms”.
The kingdom of fungi is one of the most diverse, interesting, useful and beautiful groups of life on Earth.
It is important to highlight the great abundance of mushrooms that we have here, and that in each season we offer their fruits (mushrooms) especially in autumn and spring times during which we find a wide range of species, shapes, colors and aromas … Autumn It is the key season for mushrooms, although they occupy all environments and we can find them throughout any time of the year, it is in this season when there is a true explosion and flowering of species in the forests and meadows. We find a variety of mushrooms of different colors and shapes that appear as if by magic, as from one day to the next, although the reality is that they are present permanently, the only thing that becomes visible …
A mycological campaign in autumn, may last from October to November-December. If the conditions are favorable, we can collect mushrooms with a high ecological value, not to mention the gastronomic and even medicinal in some of the species.
In our mountains we find thousands of species of fungi of which most are edible or indifferent, and a small percentage of toxic.
Impossible not to enjoy this show that every autumn offers nature in the Palencia Mountain: walk through the woods with that particular smell of autumn, the sound of streams that come down laden with water, treading on the first leaves that are beginning to fall, the ocher-yellowish landscapes with some red tones of the serbales …
And if we can also pick up, study and even taste the mushrooms, better than better!
