Palentina Mountain Natural Park
In the meadows and clearings of the forest, races, fights and dabbling are happening, trying to get any male to steal females to those who with great patience and courage have managed to form a harem. The first lights of the day and the last of the afternoon are the best hours to enjoy with binoculars and telescopes, the intimate life of this great herbivore, which over a month gives a different touch to these mountains.
Advanced mid-September, when the autumn begins to wear ocher woods, and the first cold, after the summer, are making an appearance, takes place in the Palencia Mountain one of the most interesting shows to observe and hear, “the bellow of the deer”.

It is at this time when the males, after having completely renewed the horn, and of remaining several months almost “hidden”, feel the call of zeal, and come as every year to challenge themselves. All corners of the forest are filled with the calls of the different males, looking for as many females as possible, in order to mate. First, the strongest, the big males, will do it, but as the days go by, tiredness and weakness, as they barely eat and drink, will give way to other individuals, who with great cunning, will take control of the group . However, to all this hustle and bustle, the females seem to be oblivious …

HALF DAY ROUTE
Departure from the lodge at sunrise, towards the Park to see the bellowing. For about 3 hours we will enjoy the observation of the different groups of deer, taking a chocolate with pasta (included) to warm up the body. About eleven o’clock in the morning, and back to the accommodation, we will visit a forest of oaks, in the Valley of Castillería, considered one of the best preserved of the Palencia Mountain.
Arrival at the accommodation around 1:00 p.m.
FULL DAY ROUTE
Departure from the lodge at dawn, towards the Park to observe the bellowing. For about 3 hours we will enjoy the observation of the different groups of deer, taking a chocolate with pasta (included) to warm up the body. After seeing the bellow, we will visit different places of the Park, seeing its landscape, flora and fauna, looking for a good place in the countryside to eat the sandwich (not included).
At dusk, we will locate a new place to return to observe the bellowing.
Arrival at the accommodation around 20:00.
NECESSARY MATERIAL
– Warm clothes (gloves, hat, fleece, mountain jacket, etc.)
– Trekking boots.
– Trekking sticks.
– Backpack.
– Canteen
– Photo camera (optional).
– Binoculars (optional).
– Sunscreen.
– Sunglasses.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
– Binoculars are available, at no additional cost, for those people
that they do not have them, as well as two telescopes, for remote observation.
– The displacements and support will be carried out in 4×4 vehicles, accessing the zones
restricted access of the Natural Park.
– Chocolate with pasta included in the price.
– Meals not included.
